Today is the 275th birthday of Charles Messier (mess' ee ay), the famous list maker. And here I thought I was pretty organized! The list was started to keep himself (and other comet hunters) from identifying the same fuzzies over and over again. They didn't know about galaxies back then. For those of you just starting in AA (amateur astronomy here, altho this could . . .maybe . . . drive you to you-know-what) - locating all 110 objects on the list is a matter of serious consideration, frustration, razzing, competition, discovery and just plain fun. Started in 1758, the list rambles around the sky in all directions and seasons AND he started with the hardest one to find first, hhhmmmm, sound familiar girls? He should have had Caroline Herschel to help out (but of course he NEVER would have asked)! Enjoy . . . .
Twinkle twinkle little star . . How I've wondered what we are . . Now I know you're made of dust . . Now I know you're just like us . . Twinkle twinkle, oh so far . . Now I know I am a star. Anonymous
