Hi Gene,

In the same way the clubs PST only allows light close to the Hydrogen Alpah wave lengths to pass to the EP a CA filter only allows light emitted by ionized calcium to pass to the EP.  In general this narrower bandwidth is interesting for viewing structure on the suns surface.  Specifically plague areas are much better view in this wave length.  Here are a couple of additional links.  About half way down the page of the first one is a compairson of a standard white light filter and a CaK filter
