Hey Tom,

When are you going to post some of those Mars pictures from last weekend.  I know you must have gotten some great ones, because I was looking at your camera's LCD.  Looking forward to them!  Going out tonight?

Jim

Hi Jim,

I have done a little with the images, but I am also hypertuning my LDX55 mount.  It is in what seems like hundreds of pieces in my den.  I have sanded and polished all of the metal surfaces of the bearings, and have sorta cleaned the plastic and metal washers.  I still need to trim the washers to get rid of some burrs, and perhaps to fabricate some new ones.  I have ordered some teflon disks to replace them, but an not sure if I will wait for them to arrive, of just put it back to gether.  I also got some highly recomended teflon grease.

I will still need to put it all back together, but first I need to replace the aluminum set screws in the gears with steel ones.  And I also have to paint the shiney slotted encoder wheel that times the goto flat black to reduce the reflection and improve accuracy.  Once I do all that I still need to update the flash memory with the latest software I downloaded from the internet, but that only takes about half an hour once I connect the mount to my computer with the special cable that came with the kit.

I know this seems like a lot of work, and it is cutting into my observing time.

But to answer your question yes, I am planning to go to Starhill tonite.  You gonna be there

Tom

Geeked [8-|]Tom, where was you?

Hey Tom,

I was up on the hill until 10:35 and then gave up on anyone showing.  Transparency and seeing were not as good as on my previous outing.  In fact, clouds started to roll in from the east around 10:30.  Don't know if they cleared up later.  Did you make it at all?  Wonder if tonight will draw a crowd?  Haven't even looked at the clear sky clock.  I might not even go because I used so much gas last night :).

Hi Jim,

I went out side in Tallahassee, and it just did not feel right.  The temp seems to be getting too high for good observing.  I will probably wait till later today to decide if I am going out tonite or not.  I would like to get in some more imaging, but the weather does not seem to be cooperating.  The forcast for tonite is 60F which is kinda warm in my book with passing clouds, but it might turn out to be a good nite.  I will post later if I try to go out.

Radio Shack.  Here is a link to the best discussion on grease I have seen.
