Re: OBSERVATORY Training needed

Hi All,
Here is how training works. Gene is the observing chair and he
sets the rules. The club officers also have some long standing
rules for use of club equiptment.
Most folks who want to learn how to use the C14 do so by going out to
the observing site and watching someone who knows how to use it.
This happens over some period of time. Club members and officers
get some idea how serious, trustworthy, ect. you are.
During the watching portion you sorta do little tasks related to
observing, then bigger tasks, and after a while it becomes evident you
can do it on your own. There is no formal test or anything like
that.
Quite honestly I am always happy to have company when I am using the
observatory. Most folks feel the same way. And even if they
are bringing their own socpes to Starhill they are happy to have
company. This is the best way to learn not only how to use the
observatory, but also a lot about astronomy and your fellow club
members.
I normally post before I am going to Starhill. Lots of other folks do to. So watch the forum for heading out.
Also keep in mind that I am not really a DSO guy. I normally go
there to image the moon or planets, and sometimes the brighter
Messiers. The best observing time is probably March and April so
there should be lots of changes to join others at Starhill.
